Oakfield is a happy, welcoming and inclusive school, where everyone is treated equally and expectations are high. Teaching and learning is firmly focused on the needs, abilities and enthusiasms of our pupils and we provide a tailored approach to supporting pupils with additional needs, giving extra support to those pupils who need it most.
Information about our curriculum can be found by clinking on the link below.
Every class is staffed by a teacher and at least one teaching assistant. Teaching and support staff are trained in different areas of expertise and this expertise is used as appropriate to the needs of the children. Staff are able to offer interventions as required. Examples of interventions that we offer are:
First Class at Number
Motor skills programmes
Write Away Together
Some of our pupils receive one to one support from our Special Support Assistant, Mrs Brown. She works on individual programmes with children who have been identified as requiring SEN support. Mrs Brown and Mrs Paula Anderson, the school’s Inclusion Manager, meet with parents/carers on a termly basis to review progress and set targets for these children.
We are also able to access support for our pupils from a number of specialist external agencies. These agencies include:
BLIS (Behaviour for Learning and Inclusion Service)
CLASS (Communication, Language and Autistic Spectrum Service)
SALT ( Speech and Language Therapy)
Educational Psychology Service
Advisory Teacher Service
CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service)
Our school has a Resource Provision which caters for children with moderate learning difficulties. The Resource Provision is part of Tameside Council's provision for children with moderate learning difficulties and places are allocated by Tameside Council. It is staffed by a specialist teacher and two members of support staff. Our provision can accommodate 8 full-time pupils across Reception through to Year 6. The children access some mainstream lessons with support, together with withdrawal for individual and small group work.
